Personal Survival Techniques (PST)” is a practical maritime training event full of adrenaline, aimed at building essential skills and confidence to survive at sea.

Participants will engage in realistic drills including abandon ship procedures, life raft operations, and water survival techniques.

The event tests teamwork, presence of mind, and survival skills under pressure, where every second counts.

Rules and Regulations

  • 3 teams per college.

  • Participants should have:

    • 4 members per team.

    • Their own boiler suits.

    • Players count: 05

Procedures to be followed:

  • Donning of life jackets shall be carried out when the whistle is blown.

  • After donning of life jackets, team members must check that it is done in a right way.

  • Head counts should be taken.

  • Start running towards the jumping station where the dive board is located.

  • After reaching, look down to ensure the water surface is clear.

  • Pinch your nose to prevent the shock of cold water entering your nose.

  • Hold down your life jacket collar to prevent impact injury when jumping into the water.

  • Step out far enough to avoid hitting of head on the end of the dive board.

  • Legs together and straight.

  • Jump one at a time.

  • After jumping into the water, swim towards the life raft by backstroke.

  • Board one at a time. First two to board can assist others.

  • After boarding, two should start to paddle using the oars from each side. One should use the sea anchor.

  • One will be the alternative for the paddler who is on the opposite side of the sea anchor.

  • Paddle the life raft to the other end.

  • After reaching, aboard the life raft by back diving into the water (pinch your nose and hold down your life jacket collar).

  • Backstroke towards the ladder. Climb up and run towards the starting point.

  • When all the four members of the team reach, take headcount.

  • Whistle blows.

  • After this, viva session will be conducted (from LSA).
